Our Story

My name is Janaina, but many call me Jana. I was born in Brazil and moved to the U.S. when I was 10 years old. I lived in New Jersey with my mom and twin sister, Gislana. I was never fond of  New Jersey to begin with, as life circumstances were hard for us.  Despite not having many friends, I still had my sister as my sidekick.  I began to dream of a better life. I was a bartender for almost 12 years and disliked it to be honest, however, it paid the bills. My curiosity for crochet began when my sister showed me how to create a chain with a hook and yarn, which was all she knew at the time.  I wanted to know more, so I began to look up what crochet was, as well as the variety of pieces others created. My journey to learn crochet on my own began. I gained increased knowledge and experience through educational videos, research online, and practice. I started out making diaper covers and hats which eventually led to creating larger pieces as I had more time to dedicate toward crochet.

 

In late September of 2013 I met my now husband online and a new journey began. I moved to Buffalo, NY with him in 2015. Once I moved, I had the time and support to pick up where I left off. I started out making baby dresses and shoes which demanded greater experience and detail. My passion for making rugs originated when my Aunt Pam bought an elephant rug pattern for me, which I made.  My husband gave me the idea to open a business online. Since I love owls and it had been a dream of mine to have my own business, BOOM, Owl Dreams came to life. I love what I do and put love in every stitch. Now with two beautiful kids, my wonderful husband, and the support of my family, my dreams have come true. Thank you for supporting me.

Owl Dreams has been established since 2018 serving the Buffalo area and all over the US.
